New as of June 21st: Applications are now closed! Thank you all for applying, and good luck! (The form below is no longer functional, but preserved for the curious)

Welcome to the Questors Bold V application page. Please read this information carefully before submitting your application.

We're doing things a little differently this time around. Instead of ten or so application categories with a fixed species, allegiance and gender, you have free rein to choose exactly what character you will write; but only within the four Points.

The four Starting Points are outlined in each of our Teasers. Reread the Teasers for ideas on where you can place your character. For instance, if you wish to write a vermin character, you could either write the unnamed vermin watching the Abbey in Teaser One – or you could write the Corsair Captain in Teaser Two and its expansion piece. Or you could write an ambitious crewrat with delusions of grandeur. It is up to you where you place your character.

You cannot apply with any character that has been named in the Teasers; this means if you wished to write a hare, you cannot apply with Seaforth or Trebbs. Your character must be unique, created especially for this contest. The only exception is Skrinnit's companion in the first Teaser, the one who is loyal to Tsarmina – this is a fully app-able character.

There will be ten characters chosen to tell the story of The First War. Characters will be chosen for their creativity, clarity, author writing skill and potential to create a wonderful and enthralling story. Because there will be no weekly character deaths, authors must be prepared to write through the entire competition. Relief writers will be available if an author has trouble.

Six of the story’s characters will be chosen by the Panel. Rejected applications will be given to the audience. Four of these will be voted into the story by the audience in the wildcard character vote.

If you apply, you must not tell anyone who your character(s) are. You may apply in two separate Starting Points, one character each. Accepted authors must not tell anyone – family, significant other, teacher, pet hamster – who they are throughout the entire story. To apply, fill in the form below. Instead of a 500-word piece on your character, you must rewrite the Teaser that your character starts at from your character’s point of view. This means that if you are writing a hare, you could write about being one of the patrolhares who brought back the otter body to Seaforth and your character’s reactions to it. If you are a corsair, you could write about being on the high sea in the middle of the storm. If your character is an otter, you could write about the battle between otter and corsair. If you are a shrew, you could write about the battle and being taken slave on board the corsair ship. Remember, this is a canon Redwall story. Goodbeasts must be good, vermin must be bad.

Accepted applicants will be notified on June 25th or earlier. The story will start writing on July 1st. The contest portion will end on September 31st; if further work toward an ending is required, writing will continue.

Audience votes at the end of the story will decide the top three writers, and the winners of other writing awards, like “Most Improved” or "Most Humorous".

And now, on to the application! Remember, be creative, re-read the Teasers for ideas of where to put your characters, and good luck! Be bold, be brave, be Questors all!
