Hitchhiker's Guide to the ROC
By: Faith
The time of year when great things come to an end and the evils in life seem a little less evil has just flown by in the blink of an eye. It was a time for finalés, endings, and absolute deadlines—it was June, the month for reflecting. Only a fun summer month of swimming pools, beach parties, holiday celebrations and relaxing in the air conditioning awaits the masses of kids in the Northern Hemisphere. July has arrived, and with it several new announcements for the ROC public.
To begin, Snowspine completed another chapter in Compendium history this month with the opening of the Redwall Troupe section. The Redwall Troupe contains information about clothing, music, instruments, stories, entertainers, and written records. Snowspine is still working on putting all the poems, songs, and riddles up, but she’s made quite a dent! Thankful to be finished with the addition, she is now polling Redwall fans on which section they would like to see created next—the War Room, Redwall Blueprints, or the Redwall Shipyard. The War Room will have research on war tactics and medieval military information, Redwall Blueprints will be a compilation of ancient to Dark Age architecture and building design, and the Shipyard will host a plethora of useful facts and images regarding the seaways and water-going vessels. As she works to build these next few pieces of the Compendium, Snowspine is requesting that people send her a notice if they would like to help build her Redwall library of research.
As proof of another deadline met, Lutana Lyresong, empress of the Lyresong Empire, recently put the finishing touches on a fantastic new design for her vermin club. Lyresong Empire has moved to the new location of http://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze3wx27. This vermin site, which closely follows the cultures and lifestyles of ancient Rome, is one of the few remaining "baddie" clubs in the ROC. Lyresong's summer plans include a kickoff for the Fighting Academy, a Colosseum, and some new sections to the Lyresong religion. The Academy and Colosseum are located in the land of “Veyra.”
Over at The Army of Southsward, Kewima Swiftstrength has completed the move from his old server to the new location of http://aos.kewima.com. Taking on new activities, alliances, and building new forums, Kewima has been busy finalizing his moves before taking off on another project he has been brainstorming since last autumn—The Realm. The Realm is a web of role-playing boards connecting ROC clubs and locations. It will be used for a realistic representation of the paths and areas between geographically located places, such as Southsward, Redwall, Salamandastron, North Mountains, and islands. According to Swiftstrength, “The Realm of the Ways is perceived as being a mini-web within the web for ROC sites, but yet set up so that it does not dominate or control the ROC. It will be a service designed for the use of webmasters and their participants, not a ROC government.”
As most of the ROC knows, the ROC: Survivor II has already begun and is going to begin opening voting polls in the next few weeks. In other news, Lady Tara Starblade of Starblade Isle has just upgraded her site to what she calls "borderless frames" and has added some new sections, including a PALS (Pass-A-Long Story) and an art gallery. A new Battle Season began on the first of June at Pawflash’s Redwall Abbey, which brought hundreds of responses during the fourth round. Battle Seasons are games in which all the participants involved must find ways to eliminate the other players. Without auto-hitting, you may hire assassins, mercenaries and allies to help you get rid of competing contestants and protect yourself against the odds. Each season brings in hundreds of responses daily and keeps Pawflash busier with this than with any other activity at Redwall Abbey. This is the fifth time Pawflash has run the event at his Abbey, and it is always an exciting contest to watch and cheer. The community at Pawflash's place is rapidly picking up and spreading the RP bug. Unfortunately, the Battle Season is for members only. Pawflash runs the battle seasons at least twice a year, so you may be interested in catching the next wave.
Jessie Oakshade, on the other hand, has been thinning out her forums at Oakshade Village to refine the selection of role playing boards and to build a more stable, connected community. As another season ends in the ROC and doors close, gossip of the ROC's death is once again abroad in her circle of communities. According to Oakshade, "There are rumors of the ROC dying, and I didn't want to believe it, but now I'm afraid it's true." Oakshade attributes this to the lack of membership and activity her local ring of clubs and online hangouts are experiencing.
Another door which closed quite a while ago is that of the official DAB. Jessie Oakshade now plans on reopening that door and creating the new Dibbuns Against Bedtime club. Jessie is seeking staff to maintain the project and ideas to feed into it as it progresses. Jessie is quite an inspiration to the ROC because of her determination and loyalty to this community. If you would like to send Jessie a note of encouragement or an offer of help, you can contact her at jessie-joyce@juno.com.
To prepare for the coming months, Temmlock of Temmlock’s Salamandastron has tuned up his place with a hot new design. The Comedian, an online humor magazine which Temmlock also runs, continues to produce a new issue on the 9th of every month.
As preparation for the summer months continues in the ROC, Pikkle K Woodsorrel of the Redwall Stock Exchange is seeking staff knowledgeable in PHP and MySQL scripting to help her run the Exchange and expand its capabilities. She can be contacted at a_shrubbery@hotmail.com.
As a final conclusion to this month of relaxation, Pawflash of Pawflash’s Redwall Abbey has created the ROC’s first Redwall University! At the University, you can take extensive quizzes and tests to test your Redwall knowledge and learn more about our favorite saga.
I once again urge you to join the ROC this summer and participate in ways you have never done before. This July, become a part of ROC history and always keep a piece of the ROC with you that you will never forget.
If anybody has notices regarding their own Redwall website or knows of other online news, please send me an e-mail about it to casino_swifttail@hotmail.com. Thank you!
