Welcome and Announcements
By: Philip P.
O hushed October morning mild,
Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;
Tomorrow's wind, if it be wild,
Should waste them all.
The crows above the forest call;
Tomorrow they may form and go.
O hushed October morning mild,
Begin the hours of this day slow.
Make the day seem to us less brief.
Hearts not averse to being beguiled,
Beguile us in the way you know.
Release one leaf at break of day;
At noon release another leaf;
One from our trees, one far away.
-- Robert Frost, October
Greetings Readers, and welcome to October.
From where I am sitting, I am looking out towards the farmland south of Edmonton. I am looking across a golden sea, not of wheat (that happened in August), but of leaves. Ther's one particular tree that keeps pulling my eye to it. It is taller than all of the houses around, and is solid gold. Not really gold of course, but the colour of its leaves is magnificent. Clear skyes, and a forest full of colour. No longer is it just green (which is, in all fairness, very nice), but reds, and yellows, even purple, and of course, the evergreens stay - well, green. And then, over a period of 24 hours, all of the trees loose these leaves, creating a nice crunchy path to walk on.
This is also the month of Halloween - or "All Hallow Even" - which is, as is well known, October 31st - the night before All Hallows Day. There is a lot of history to this event - which has actually ended up going from a Celtic festival to a bunch of kids going door to door getting candy, dressed up as - well, whatever they want to be. Having a peanut allergy in the family, I don't really take part in the Trick-or-Treating - it's too dangerous for my sister - and instead contemplate on the fact that October 31st is, for the most part, the first snowfall here in Alberta. I find that - amusing. But enough rambling.
This month we bring you a slightly belated issue (due to issues which were largly my fault, as I didn't keep track of artists...), but one that should be rather interesting. First up we have a very interesting article from Scolly. Not much can be said here - you just have to read it. Jason brings us an editorial, as well as the next chapter of Ulaid, and Highwing brings us not one, but two articles.
With all that said, just go and have a read. Enjoy!
