ROC: Survivor - The Saga Continues
By: Nick
[Editors Note: By the time you read this, the final voting for ROCS will have already taken place.]
As of press-time, there are but three of the castaways remaining on the Island of Terror. Pyr Teranight (vixen), Vodola (vixen), and Cayenne Doubletree (otter) are all that remain of the stalwart crew who arrived six weeks ago. Levet, Ciarnait Conmarra, Athi Retta, Orlic Ravenwing, and Tundra Windfire were joined this week by Vinklinar Vulturetooth, the unlucky weasel who only wanted to be good. He went out in a blaze of glory which would befit any Badger Lord.
The Deaths So Far...
Levet - Died fending off a Lizard of mammoth proportions.
Ciarnait Conmarra - Committed suicide and walked into the sea.
Athi Retta - Poisoned after a freak accident caused by storm.
Orlic Ravenwing - Killed by a stone from a Native Rat's sling.
Tundra Windfire - Swam out to sea at night. Never returned.
Vinklinar Vulturetooth - Died of wounds sustained in spectacular battle with Basilisks. 40 Basilisks lay dead at termination of battle.
As the fatalities continue, they get more and more fantastic. However, there may not be any more. Starting this week, you VOTE FOR THE ONE YOU WANT TO WIN, not who you want to lose. Hopefully everyone realizes this...
Plot Developments...
This story has more twists than a frisky snake. Recently, we've learned that the shipwreck was caused in an attempt to dispose of Pyr Teranight, a vixen with small connections to the current regent of Castle Floret. Furthermore, the conspirators were working for the currator of Vodola's school at Mausleed Academy, with the final intent of subjugating all of Mossflower, Redwall included. This has given the castaways new purpose, and they were just about to complete a boat capable of taking them to the mainland when they were chased off by the Basilisks, the "True Owners of the Island". It was as a result of this incident that Vinklinar's madness took control, and he embarked on his campaign to destroy the lizard overlords. This is as far as we have come...
Vinklinar Vulturetooth
The weasel of weasels. The latest (and possibly last) of the castaways to perish, Vinklinar was a courageous weasel who was raised in Redwall after his lackluster parents were lost in an assault on the Abbey. His quest for happiness as a goodbeast was hampered by intolerant dibbuns, suspicious elders, and the memory of his evil parents. Eventually he fled the Abbey in search of happiness elsewhere, and found it (however temporarily) aboard a small ship called the Weatherlight. His mouse-friend, Zernat, accompanied him on his journey aboard the Starsong, but was sadly lost soon after arriving on the island. Vinklinar looked for happiness wherever he could find it, and only at the moment of his death did he consider himself truly content. He rests forever with his friend in a cave on the cursed island, and will be sorely missed by his friends. Good on you, Vink!
Prognostications (What Happens Next)
The contest is nearly at an end. The last voting period is in progress as I write this article. As of right now, Pyr Teranight is in lead as the winner with 100% of the votes (2 votes out of 2). It is up to the winner to decide what happens to the other two contestants. They may all escape together, or one may stay behind, or both may be killed. I can't, however, imagine that any of the three remaining contestants would leave the others behind. Pyr, Vodola, and Cayenne are quite closely-knit at this point (having promised never to leave each other), so it seems likely that, whoever the "winner" is, all three will escape. Time will tell. Given the time frame for uploading this magazine, it is likely that we will be able to carry news of the winner and the fate of the castaways. Good luck to all involved.
What the Contestants Say...
The living castaways (prior to Vink's demise) were asked a set of questions. Here are some of the answers.
Q. What's the most difficult thing about this game?
Pyr Teranight:
"Well, there're two that tie. One is how carefully you have to work at every post. Each one has to be as good as you can get it, because if the audience doesn't like your posts, you're dead. It would be stressful if I were the kind of person who was easily stressed by what other people think of me...
The other is trying to remember everything that's going on and not contradicting what others have said. As is evidenced by some of my recent posts.... *grimace*"
Cayenne Doubletree:
"Keeping it origional without screwing with the entire story too much. I try to come up with surprises without introducing new dangers (I think we have enough already!)"
Q. What's the easiest?
Cayenne Doubletree:
"I like being able to bounce off the other characters, 'cos then I don't have to write it all myself. Does that answer the question?"
Vinklinar Vulturetooth:
"Being able to let other people finish what you began. Not sure how to end your post? Leave it with the lizard swiping at you. ^_^"
Q. Who do you want to win? Who /will/ win?
Vinklinar Vulturetooth:strong>
"Uh, I wouldn't mind winning, but as everyone knows, I'm not going to. I think Cayenne deserves to. Her character's been to heck and back. :P The way voting has been going around here, I can't be sure. All I'll say is that it won't be me."
Pyr Teranight:
"I would love for me to win, although it's not that likely... If I were impartial, though, I'd definitely say Vodola. She rocks. She deserves to win."
Q. What do you think of the arguments raging on the discussion boards?
Vinklinar Vulturetooth:
"There's nothing wrong with them."
Pyr Teranight:
"They're FUN! I love arguments. Some of the people drive me seriously insane, though, because they're defensive arguments. Others are excellent at not taking offence at /anything/, let alone something that wasn't even remotely offensive, and that's the type that's really fun to have good arguments with. There're lots of both types here."
Cayenne Doubletree:
"I think they're kinda pointless... oh well! Who says anything has to have a point?"
There you have it! Straight from the horse's mouth, as they say. Whatever the outcome, the contest has certainly been memorable, and there is little doubt that ROC Survivor II, if such a thing exists, will be met with immense enthusiasm.
