Site Review: Starfire's Redwall Abbey
By: Kathryn
This hot site is now all the rave on the Redwall Online Community. Recently showing off a new design, it has rapidly moved up the Redwall Top 100 Charts. It's flashy graphics and metallic blue buttons give it a high-tech look, which keeps you looking around the site. This reporter's taking an in-depth look at possibly one of the best Redwall sites at the moment to discover, what makes this site so good, and why.
Graphics- 8.5/10
This site has "Cool Looking Buttons and Graphics" written all over it! When
entering the site, you'll enjoy nice metallic blue buttons and sparkling
graphics. The main graphic, stating the name, blends in nicely with the
other. The only negative point I noticed is that there are no distinctive
or different colours and such to the graphics. They are all the same type,
not necessarily a bad thing, but perhaps they should have a few different
graphics to make it more decorative and interesting. However, on the individual
pages, there are some nice pictures of Redwall characters and such adding
to the graphic aspect. This site definitely doesn't lack theme graphics
or flashy looks.
Content- 8/10
The writing in this site is pretty fair. Nothing to out-of-the-ordinary
from other ROC sites, it gets the point across to the reader, in an easy
to understand way, which makes it a nice family site. It contains the usual
information on the Redwall books, fun activities to learn about Redwall
and test your knowledge, an art page, a links page, places where you can
submit stories and fanfics, etc, you get the idea. However, there are some
things that this site has that other ROC sites lack. For instance, there's
a funny Redwall section with bloopers and such, also there's a Character
Development area, and a dictionary/thesaurus type page for those that don't
understand a word or phrase in the RW books. Great for young Redwall Readers!
The site contains everything for the entire family, as stated earlier, so
young un's to big un's check it out!
Activities- 7/10
In the Abbey Lawns you'll find the actives section of the site. All the
games are rated on the level of skill required, so everyone can enjoy their
visit to the site. It's also categorized by things you can do offline and
things you can do online, so you don't have to worry about mad parents being
annoyed at you for missing messages! This area is done quite well, delivering
the goods to the viewer, yet at the same time, perhaps only capturing a
limited attention span to this section of the site. Nothing's going to keep
you on the computer all night playing these games.
Interaction- 7/10
Now a days, many members like to interact with one another, sharing their
views, pondering ideas, and making decisions. Not all sites have this, the
owners might just want to make their own decisions, and let the members
do their own thing instead of meeting other members. This site has a good
interaction aspect to it as it has a Forum and a Chatroom, however there
are no multiple interaction games which is a good way to attract more members.
Most ROC sites achieve the interaction aspect by creating a rpg or a team
game, but, this is rare to find multiple interaction games on ROC sites
today, but they are starting to pop up on more sites. Usually, you just
find a message board and a chatroom, as this site displays. For all you
ROC webmasters, this is a good tip for ya!
Overall - 30.5 /40
Overall, I found this site very easy to navigate, it met most of my standards,
and gave me something to do with my time. It perhaps is not as eye-catching
as, for instance, Camp Willow, but then again, what site is? Camp Willow
is after all rated the number 1 ROC site on the Redwall Top 100!!! It definitely
is a more than average site, as it is well done, and is better on average
than many ROC sites. Congrats to Starfire, she had one an excellent job
on making this site and keep up the good work!
