By: Josh
Marlfox is a source of mystery and curiosity no longer. It was released in British bookstores on July 2nd of 1998. There are many who have already read this thrilling tale, but many Americans who have not. The purpose of this article is to give an idea as to the basic plot without spoiling the fun of reading it.
First of all, many will ask the question, "Who is the Marlfox? The question should be, "What are the Marlfoxes?" Marlfoxes are mysterious and devious creatures, colored a strange patchy color of silver, black, and even some blue. They are rumored by the woodland creatures to be magical, due to their excellent camouflaging.
Marlfox is about an evil fox queen, Queen Silth, and her brood of seven children. Silth is the high queen of the lost island in the center of the great lake (described in Salamandastron - the lake where the Deepcoiler lived). Six of her children go out into Mossflower, pillaging and plundering. Their target: the tapestry of Martin the Warrior at Redwall Abbey. Set against the evil Marlfoxes, are two young squirrels, a shrew, and a water vole will risk everything to save their beloved tapestry. On their journey to Castle Marl, they will lose many friends, and gain many more.
