I'm not bewailing it or anything, this is something I've been wondering about and it'd be neat to hear some thoughts from people who know more about it than I do. Does there still seem to be an actual "online community" for Redwall?
Heck, is there still much of an online community for anything - at least in the way that there used to be? Obviously the Redwall series still has fans, and the odds are pretty good that a percentage of them are using the internet to express this. What I'm really wondering about is the state of the fansite, as opposed to expressions of fandom within the context of broader, automated services (your DeviantART, Youtube, etc). I saw these sites as being the essential building blocks of the online community, but where are they now? Geocities died an ignonimous death; I don't notice Angelfire sites & the like showing up among search results anymore. Is it just that I don't see fansites anymore because I'm not looking for them, or has Web 2.0 and social media kind of supplanted whatever outlet those sites used to provide?
Again, this is just me being curious. The only real downside I can see to a shift in this direction is the loss of that implicit "do-it-yourself" mentality that used to go hand-in-hand with making things for the internet. I think that had some fun and educational value to it.
